Lady In Blue

I am totally new to colorising old photographs – but learning all the time.

Sometimes the colours I use “drop” into place quite easily.  Sometimes, if I am having difficulty, I have to do a little research to get an idea as to what colours the people were wearing in those bygone days.

Either way it’s a lot of fun

Digital Painting Of Back Streets Of Venice

Today’s digital painting, this time the backstreets of Venice.

Yes it started as a photograph and if it had stayed that way, I would suggest, it would have been as exactly the same as everyone else’s picture who stood in the same spot as I did.

Some people get hot under the collar when someone “messes” with a photograph (it’s not proper photography) – but I applaud those who do – go for it, do more, push those boundaries !

We are making art for the 21st Century

Official “launch”

Portia example 1

The Costume Manor House Photographic Workshop (which I hinted about on my last blog) has now been scheduled for the 22nd March 2015.

The  most surprising thing is that there is ONLY 1 PLACE LEFT because a number of people contacted me (after they had  read my blog) to register an interest in finding out more… and when they found out more…… they went ahead and booked their place!

Due to the fact a couple of people couldn’t make the 22nd March, but still very much wanted to attend the workshop, Marie and I decided to arrange another costume shoot for Saturday 14th March…. so we booked the Manor House again  ….and 2 people have already secured their place.

Marie Otero is coming over from the USA and for those who don’t know her she is an instructor for the PSA (Photographic Society of America) who teaches Photography and Digital Art & Digital Painting at workshops in the USA and Europe with great success. She has won a number of International Photography Awards including a Royal Photographic Society Gold medal for her image Shipwrecked Stranger and Gold Medals for her Black and White Architecture work and Creative compositions.

For my part… I have organized a number of very successful photographic seminars including quite a few Fine Art Nude Photographic workshops and a good majority of those attendees who submitted the resulting images from the shoot to the various salons and exhibitions, gained awards at national and international level – some were fortunate enough to be awarded gold medals! –  which, as the organizer of the event, is very satisfying.

So along with the Costume Manor House Workshop Marie and I will be hosting a Photoshop for Photographers Workshop on the 15th March and the 21st March for a day of exploration with Photoshop, learning about textures, layers, layer masks, compositing and lighting your images post production. There are a couple of people already booked on these workshop and I am sure that it will be of interest to others too. Please be aware that there are only a very very limited number of places for this workshop.

I have to say that both Marie and I have been overwhelmed by the response to these workshops even before they have been “launched” to the wider world.

So, if I had a red ribbon, I would be cutting it now and declaring the Costume Manor House Photographic and Photographers Photoshop workshops… OPEN and a warm welcome to all of you who have already booked.

First Days In North Carolina

Recently, I had a wonderful trip to North Carolina to visit my photographic chum Marie Otero and what a trip it was !

I have never visited that part of the USA before and found it to be absolutely fantastic –  the people were delightful, dare I say AWESOME?  Marie and her husband (and cats) were wonderful hosts and Marie and I found we had so much in common it was totally mind blowing. The only thing that was completely different was that Marie was an night owl and I am an early bird but that said we had plenty of time to play. We shared the same love of photography, enjoyed creating painterly images and laughed at the same things (can’t tell you what though !!!)

Marie organised a very full on schedule and we started off by photographing Bree in Studio 51 and Amy Jo at Marie’s home/studio.  Both models were great fun and were a joy to photograph.

I have been soooo busy since I got back I haven’t had time to really look at the pictures from the various shoots…… until now. Here are a couple of pictures featuring both of the models I mentioned above (Bree and Amy Jo) and as I process more pictures I will upload them for you to have a sneaky peek at.

Incidentally, we went to an American Bar & Grill in Statesville and had a wonderful lunch including Dill Chips – which turned out to be dill pickle thinly sliced and then dipped in batter and deep fried. Now I know you are probably saying yuk but….. my goodness they really were sensational !!!

This is my first blog (very scary) and I thought that I would take the opportunity of saying hello fellow bloggers and introduce myself

I am a Photographer and Digital Artist based in the North West of the U.K.  and  have been very fortunate to have gained  numerous awards including Gold Medals at International level for my photographic work and I am an Associate Of The Royal Photographic Society.

Okay,  so that’s all of the sensible stuff over ……. My passions are  (apart from my family) travel and photography which thankfully feed off each other.  I am known ( if I am known) for my creative images and  I  very much enjoy blurring the boundaries of conventional painting and photography and to that end many of my images have a definite painterly feel.   I have to admit that, like lots of other creative image producers, my hard drive (and numerous other external hard drives) are full of random pictures which will be used in a montage somewhere in the near future – I live in hope !  I am, through this website, planning to show you how I go about putting these images together  so that you might be encouraged to have a go yourself  (the more creatives the merrier I say).

I really enjoy helping others to push their own personal boundaries and provide tutorials and workshops in Creative Photoshop and Fine Art Nude Photography to small groups or on a one to one basis – you will be able to find out more about these tutorials and workshops on this site as time goes by

This website will enable me to share my photographic and travelling experiences with you…. assuming you are interested !  We can share the journey together and I would love to hear from you if you have comments to make about my photographic musings.  You will also be able to see when my workshops and tutorials are scheduled and also  purchase prints, photoshop brushes and textures – but all in good time  I am just starting out – and belive me I have much to learn in this wonderful world of blogging – please be patient with me 🙂

I hope you enjoy the journey …. So take a  deep breath….. Off we go !
