Having “Faith” In Fine Art Nudes !

The model featured here is the very beautiful Faith and I had the  pleasure of photographing her recently.

As a Fine Art Model she is up there with the best – in my humble opinion.

Faith and a chair is a simple but great combination !

2

……..and Faith in a dress is a perfect combination too !

Looking forward to working with her again sooooooooon  as she will be one of the models in a future Fine Art Nude Workshop 🙂

Early Fine Art Nudes – My Recent Journey

The Artists model

Having had a recent Fine Art Nude  shoot it has encouraged me to have a look back at my first photographic attempts.  I have drawn and painted many models both female and male in life classes at art school and the above picture (the first session I had with the delightful Ivory Flame) combined both disciplines …….well I think so anyway.

I think mono and Fine Art Nudes go together and I feel that this photograph is a nice example of that. This was my very first Fine Art Nude photographic session back in 2008 – I am pleased to say there were many more to follow and now I organise Fine Art Nude photographic workshops to encourage others to “have a go” at the genre.

THE ABOVE PICTURES WERE ALL TAKEN IN 2008 AND REPRESENTED BY FIRST PHOTOGRAPHIC  ATTEMPS AT FINE ART NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY

I learned quite early on that I could use the pictures I took in the studio to turn them into something more……. creative !  Here is an example

FINE ART NUDE WORKSHOPS ETC

Nude 11

Looking at my diary I am really excite about what is happening in 2015.

There are a number of FINE ART NUDE workshops which have been planned for the first half of 2015  (March & June) along with some spectacular costumed shoots at a manor house using VERY well known models (the models are very experienced fine art nude models and there will be an opportunity to obtain some beautiful fine art nude images from the shoot too)- more of this soon.

On a personal note I have a couple of themed shoots which I am going to work towards as well as an overdue return to my much loved FINE ART NUDE photography which I have neglected for a couple of years.

I am also looking forward to doing some judging in 2015 which I thoroughly enjoy (and would welcome the opportunity to do more)

So if you want to know more about the FINE ART NUDE workshops and the costumed manor house shoot please contact me (using the contact me form on this site) and I will give you more details.

All the best for 2015 and hope that it finds you in good health and happiness

In The Beginning There Was The Nude…….

Portia 1

So, I have told you about my encounter with the check out lady who was stunned to learn that a middle aged woman wanted to photograph nudes and found it difficult to give me eye contact or send me off with a smile (see blog below Nudes Or Fluffy Kittens, Flowers And Puppies).

I can just imagine the conversation in the canteen at the local Supermarket

Checkout Lady: well, have I got a story to tell you ladies

Doris: do tell

Checkout Lady: this woman came through my checkout point and guess what !

Gladys: she tried to leave without paying?

Checkout Lady: No!

Sylvia: she had a turkey under her sweater?

Checkout Lady: No !

Mavis: she had a gun and tried to rob your till?

Checkout Lady: No, worse than that !

All three ladies: Gasp! Gasp!  Gasp!

Checkout Lady: she photographs people in the nude !!

Gladys: what… hang on…. She photographs people when she isn’t wearing any clothes?

Checkout Lady: No….. SHE is clothed but the people she photographs aren’t !

All three ladies: eewwww

Seeing that I have told you the end of the story I thought that I would tell you how it all began. This is my photographic journey in the genre of Fine Art Nudes.

So…. Sit down, get a nice cup of coffee/tea (or other beverage) and a biscuit and I will tell you.( you don’t need to make yourself quite as comfortable as the beautiful Ivory Flame pictured below)

So I have established that the first question is “what do you like to photograph?” with the  answer “Fine Art Nudes”.

I can pretty much guarantee  the next 2 questions will be  “Why” and “How long have you been doing that?”

Well, hopefully, I will answer both of those questions….

It all started when I was at school (yes as long ago as that). I was very good at art and it was decided, by the teachers, that I would benefit from attending the Warrington School Of Art . So I went along on a Saturday morning for the next 5 years and I enjoyed every minute.

I wanted to be a dress designer when I left school, so was thrilled when I found out that I was being tutored by Ozzie Clark’s Art Teacher. Ozzie Clark went to school in Warrington and became a very famous dress designer in the 1960’s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ossie_Clark

This Art Teacher  taught me so much about the rules of composition (and how to deliberately break them), colour harmony, visual impact etc and I am grateful to him for helping me to developing my artist’s eye. I designed and made lots of clothes for myself and my friends. Some of the resulting outfits were FAB others … well you can imagine were not so marvellous but it was the swinging sixties anything went fashion wise (thanks goodness)

For one reason or another I was unable to go full time to Art School when I left school and began working at a local company that manufactured wire. Working there was horrific (lots of tales to tell about THAT period of my working life) but I still had a passion for art and decided to go to evening classes. My Mum encouraged me (as she still does) to continue with my  drawing and painting and was therefore very  happy when she knew I had signed up to an Art Class – little did she know what I was about to draw !

Now this is where I first encountered my first nude model and this will be the subject of my next blog.

First Days In North Carolina

Recently, I had a wonderful trip to North Carolina to visit my photographic chum Marie Otero and what a trip it was !

I have never visited that part of the USA before and found it to be absolutely fantastic –  the people were delightful, dare I say AWESOME?  Marie and her husband (and cats) were wonderful hosts and Marie and I found we had so much in common it was totally mind blowing. The only thing that was completely different was that Marie was an night owl and I am an early bird but that said we had plenty of time to play. We shared the same love of photography, enjoyed creating painterly images and laughed at the same things (can’t tell you what though !!!)

Marie organised a very full on schedule and we started off by photographing Bree in Studio 51 and Amy Jo at Marie’s home/studio.  Both models were great fun and were a joy to photograph.

I have been soooo busy since I got back I haven’t had time to really look at the pictures from the various shoots…… until now. Here are a couple of pictures featuring both of the models I mentioned above (Bree and Amy Jo) and as I process more pictures I will upload them for you to have a sneaky peek at.

Incidentally, we went to an American Bar & Grill in Statesville and had a wonderful lunch including Dill Chips – which turned out to be dill pickle thinly sliced and then dipped in batter and deep fried. Now I know you are probably saying yuk but….. my goodness they really were sensational !!!

HELLO BLOGGING WORLD !!

This is my first blog (very scary) and I thought that I would take the opportunity of saying hello fellow bloggers and introduce myself

I am a Photographer and Digital Artist based in the North West of the U.K.  and  have been very fortunate to have gained  numerous awards including Gold Medals at International level for my photographic work and I am an Associate Of The Royal Photographic Society.

Okay,  so that’s all of the sensible stuff over ……. My passions are  (apart from my family) travel and photography which thankfully feed off each other.  I am known ( if I am known) for my creative images and  I  very much enjoy blurring the boundaries of conventional painting and photography and to that end many of my images have a definite painterly feel.   I have to admit that, like lots of other creative image producers, my hard drive (and numerous other external hard drives) are full of random pictures which will be used in a montage somewhere in the near future – I live in hope !  I am, through this website, planning to show you how I go about putting these images together  so that you might be encouraged to have a go yourself  (the more creatives the merrier I say).

I really enjoy helping others to push their own personal boundaries and provide tutorials and workshops in Creative Photoshop and Fine Art Nude Photography to small groups or on a one to one basis – you will be able to find out more about these tutorials and workshops on this site as time goes by

This website will enable me to share my photographic and travelling experiences with you…. assuming you are interested !  We can share the journey together and I would love to hear from you if you have comments to make about my photographic musings.  You will also be able to see when my workshops and tutorials are scheduled and also  purchase prints, photoshop brushes and textures – but all in good time  I am just starting out – and belive me I have much to learn in this wonderful world of blogging – please be patient with me 🙂

I hope you enjoy the journey …. So take a  deep breath….. Off we go !
